OSHA
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, a federal agency responsible for ensuring safe and healthy working conditions by setting and enforcing workplace standards.
PPE
Personal Protective Equipment — specialized clothing or equipment worn by workers to protect against health and safety hazards in the workplace.
JSA
Job Safety Analysis — a procedure that helps identify the best way to perform a job safely by integrating accepted safety and health principles.
SDS
Safety Data Sheet — a document that provides comprehensive information about a hazardous chemical, including its properties, hazards, and safe handling procedures.
LOTO
Lockout/Tagout — safety procedures used to ensure that dangerous machines are properly shut off and not started up again before maintenance work is completed.
Near Miss
An unplanned event that did not result in injury, illness, or damage but had the potential to do so. Reporting near misses helps identify and correct hazards.
Ergonomics
The science of designing workplaces, products, and systems to fit the people who use them, reducing strain and preventing musculoskeletal disorders.
Incident Rate
A metric used to measure workplace safety performance, typically calculated as the number of recordable incidents per 100 full-time employees per year.
Hazard Assessment
A systematic process for identifying potential hazards in the workplace and evaluating the risks they pose to workers.
EHS
Environment, Health, and Safety — a discipline and specialty that studies and implements practical aspects of environmental protection and safety at work.
